Are you still on the fence when it comes to vaping? Or are you actively looking to be swayed into converting over? Whatever your situation, we’re going to go over the top 5 reasons to make the switch from smoking to vaping. From health benefits to saving money, we’re sure a few of these points will apply to your current situation. Let’s jump straight in.
1. Health is wealth, people!
The most important reason for quitting smoking is due to the damage it causes to your body, which can very possibly lead to death. Don’t just take our word for it, Public Health England has backed our industry year on year, reiterating its claim that “vaping is at least 95% safer than smoking”. As well as preventable deaths, it also costs the NHS billions of pounds each year. To quote Michael Russell, the developer of nicotine gum and father of tobacco harm reduction: “people smoke for nicotine but they die from the tar”.
2. Money, money, money!
We very recently published an article which gives an up-to-date look at the current annual expenses of both smoking and vaping and puts things into perspective. To heavily summarise the points rose in that article: the average smoker will spend £4,015 annually to fund their habit, while vapers will spend an average of £397 in the same period. This is a substantial difference in price and the gap only widens year on year.
In short, a switch to vaping can save you a lot of money in the long run. Tobacco prices seem on course to continue to rise in price, whereas in the vaping industry we’ve seen prices decrease over the years, especially when mixing your e-liquids.
3. It’s more environmentally friendly
Did you know that cigarette butts are the top plastic polluters globally? An estimated 4.5 trillion of them are littered annually and due to the toxic chemicals contained in them, they’re non-biodegradable. They routinely make their way into waterways and eventually the ocean, where they account for more damage than bottle caps, food wrappers, plastic bags and straws. Vaping cuts out the cigarette butt factor entirely which straight away clears up a serious environmental problem.
Cigarette butts aren’t the only issue, however. The production process of cigarettes is a huge contributing factor to the deforestation issue. One tree is destroyed for every 300 cigarettes produced and, on average, 5-6 trillion cigarettes are produced annually… you do the math. The impact that just a single lifelong smoker has on the environment is staggering. For a 20-a-day smoker, after 50 years they’ll be responsible for 1.4 million litres of water depletion.
We can’t praise ourselves too much. Items such as old atomisers, carts, wicks (etc.) without a doubt contribute to negatively impacting the environment once thrown in the bin. However, these issues pale in comparison to the damage caused by cigarettes and there are options you can take to reduce your excess waste. However, we most definitely recognise this and take steps to reduce our footprint. We ensure that all our products are easily recyclable and when possible, we’ll use biodegradable and easily recycled postage packing.
4. Goodbye smell, hello flavour!
I doubt there are many people out there who enjoy the smell of tobacco lingering on their clothing or in the air. Prove me wrong, by all means. But the bad smell is one of the main stigmas of smoking. Switching to vaping offers the user a myriad of choices when it comes to the flavour of e-liquids. Your favourite sweets, pastries, and baked goods (etc.) will most likely already exist in e-liquid form.
As well as this, quitting smoking will aid in recovering a lot of your lost sense of taste which is inhibited by a smoking habit. The taste and smell senses are closely interlinked and smoking affects both of them; this happens in two ways. Firstly, the taste buds lose their shape and become flat, which affects one’s ability to properly perceive flavours. Secondly, the toxic fume which you inhale from cigarettes damages the nerves and reduces the ability to smell.
Within as quickly as 48 hours, your ability to taste and smell will improve. Couple this with the fact that you now have access to a wide range of e-liquid flavours… your taste buds will have never had it so good.
5. A growing community
If you’re not a part of the vaping community already, it can go unnoticed just how tight-knit and supportive we are as a collective. Our industry is still very much in its early stages and it’s been an exciting ride so far. Innovative products are constantly being rolled out refined. Honestly, it’s hard to keep up with it all at times.
We have our own Vapable Vapers Group on Facebook which you can join if you’re looking for information on all things vape related, or simply just want to chat with our members; we’re a friendly bunch. Why not come and join us?
And that’s that. We urge anyone who’s contemplating a switch to vaping to take a trip down the rabbit hole of our industry and get to grips with the basics. One of our main goals is to continually refine the transition process to make vaping a more accessible option to those who need it most.
