The Baker’s Dozen range was created to provide vapers with a collection of bakery-themed e-liquid flavours that have been carefully blended to make each one a unique vaping experience. The labels and the branding of the liquids have obviously been designed to have a British bake-off type of vibe. With their use of union jacks and bunting, you could easily believe that these are all prizewinning recipes, submitted to a summer fete bakery contest by the ladies of the Women’s Institute. I think it’s time to judge whether these e-liquids are show-stopping or not, so read on to see what I thought. For this review, I have tested all 12 flavours from their range of 60ml shortfill e-liquids, which are mixed to a 70/30 ratio.
Apple Crumble & Custard
Apple Crumble and Custard is my all-time favourite dessert, so I immediately decided to try this one first. This e-liquid has a light apple flavour on the inhale- not too sweet or tart. On the exhale you get the smooth and rich custard taste, combined nicely with the crumble. It’s not quite up to my mum’s standard, but this flavour did bring waves of Sunday lunchtime nostalgia flooding back for me. Apple Crumble and Custard is a beautifully balanced flavour, with the freshly baked aroma of a sweet and buttery crumble. Personally, I would have preferred a bit more apple in the mix, but this is a delicious e-liquid nonetheless.
Banana Nut Bread
I’m a big fan of the real thing, so Banana Nut Bread was another flavour I looked forward to trying with eager anticipation. The first thing that hits you is the lovely and warm baked nut flavour. It is almost reminiscent of a nice nutty tobacco, but then the sweetness of the bananas comes through and reminds you that this is a bakery flavour. The toasty hazelnut aroma is absolutely gorgeous and the bananas are not too overpowering in the mix either. Overall, this is an exceedingly pleasant e-liquid and I actually used this as my all day vape for a week. I could easily order another bottle of this e-liquid as I enjoyed it so much.
The Bakers Dozen Birthday Cake e-liquid is mixed to taste of a traditional rich sponge cake, filled with strawberry jam with a sweet icing. The flavour of a soft and buttery cake comes through strongly, followed by quite a heavy sweetness. I personally would have liked more of the strawberry flavour, but overall this is a nice e-liquid and it does appeal to my sweet tooth. If you like very sweet bakery flavours, I recommend that you give this one a try.
Black Forest Gateau
Black Forest Gateau e-liquid is based on the classic combination of rich dark chocolate sponge, whipped cream and cherries. The chocolate flavour comes through strongly on the inhale. It is a nice sweet chocolate and not at all bitter. On the exhale you get a lovely candied dark cherry flavour, with a light note of creaminess. This is a very well-balanced e-liquid and it should appeal to anybody who is nostalgic for the taste of the quintessential 1970’s dessert.
Blueberry Crumble & Custard
After trying the apple version, I wondered how Baker’s Dozen Blueberry Crumble and Custard compared. To be honest, I actually preferred this one. The warm crumble and custard flavour is still there, but the lovely sweet and aromatic blueberry seems to make this e-liquid stand out more over the traditional apple. This is an absolutely beautiful e-liquid and is one that I could happily vape all day. I used this for a week without getting tired of the flavour and I had many favourable comments about its gorgeous sweet aroma. If you are a lover of dessert e-liquids, Baker’s Dozen Blueberry Crumble and Custard comes highly recommended.
Although I’m not a big fan of chocolate vapes, Chocolate Doughnut should appeal to many people. The doughnut flavour is good- nice and yeasty, with a good deep fried taste. The chocolate has a smooth flavour that reminds me of the taste of fresh chocolate éclairs. Chocolate Doughnut is a very sweet flavour, with a nice dense richness. If you love sweet dessert vapes, you need to give this a try.
Key Lime Pie
The Baker’s Dozen Key Lime Pie e-liquid is another flavour in the range that really stood out for me. The inhale gives you a lovely citrus zing from the tart lime, but this is perfectly balanced by a rich sweet creaminess, with just the right amount of biscuit flavour. The overall effect is of a really satisfying lime cheesecake- dense and full of flavour. More dessert than bakery, Key Lime Pie is a very moreish e-liquid that you could easily vape all day.
Lemon Drizzle Cake
The Baker’s Dozen Lemon Drizzle Cake e-liquid is yet another flavour that is spot on for me. This is a truly authentic flavour. It tastes just like a wholesome sponge cake, soaked in lemon juice and sugar syrup. The cake tastes traditionally home-made and the lemon flavour has a gorgeous sweetness that made this a very addictive vape for me. I found that this was a perfect vape to accompany a cup of tea. Plain and simple, yet deliciously satisfying, Lemon Drizzle Cake is one of those e-liquids that could be described as a “gourmet juice” without any exaggeration.
Lemon Tart e-liquid carries on from the drizzle cake, but substitutes the sponge cake for a rich and buttery shortcrust pastry flavour. The lemon on the inhale tastes smooth and sweet, like a fresh lemon curd and is perfectly balanced by the beautiful pastry taste on the exhale. The overall effect is one of sheer scrumptiousness and again, I found that I could use this as an all day vape for a whole week. I really do recommend that you try Lemon Tart if you love pastry based vapes.
Strawberry Danish has a dominant sweet flaky pastry flavour, with a bright strawberry shining through on the exhale. Both the taste and aroma of this e-liquid are gorgeous. The luscious flavour of the strawberries is well balanced against the rich and buttery pastry background and this e-liquid has a really moreish taste. Baker’s Dozen have nailed this flavour perfectly. It really does taste like it’s fresh from the oven and there’s even a salty hint to the pastry that makes this flavour taste so authentic.
What could be better than a Strawberry Trifle? Baker’s Dozen have turned the quintessential party dessert into a gorgeous e-liquid that combines velvety smooth dairy custard with whipped cream and sweet, luscious strawberry jelly. This is a very finely balanced mix of flavours and is probably a difficult one to get just right. None of the flavours dominates over any other and so the overall effect is just like vaping a real trifle. The beautifully authentic flavour of this e-liquid means that it could very easily become your next all day vape, so you might soon be ordering second helpings.
The Baker’s Dozen Victoria Sponge is another e-liquid which aims to provide a quintessentially English taste. The classic sponge cake with strawberry jam and whipped cream is a simple idea, yet a complex flavour profile to get just right. Baker’s Dozen have really nailed the flavour here. The rich cake base flavour is complemented by the beautifully luscious strawberry on the inhale. The exhale leaves you with the smooth creaminess and the lingering taste of strawberry. This gorgeous flavour was another winner for me.
The Baker’s Dozen have created a comprehensive range of truly outstanding flavours here. They are all really tasty e-liquids, but none of them are too overpowering and most of the flavours are nicely balanced to give the sort of tastes you would expect to find in a village bakery. The quality of the Baker’s Dozen e-liquids and their beautifully designed packaging gives many of the so-called “premium” liquids a run for their money. If you love bakery or dessert e-liquids, you should try some of the flavours in this range- you won’t be disappointed.
