My electronic cigarette isn’t working

This page is here to help if you are getting no vapour at all out of your electronic cigarette. If you are getting some vapour, but it tastes burnt click here. If you are getting some vapour but also a lot of gurgling and/or liquid in your mouth click here.

Electronic cigarettes are very simple devices and there aren’t actually many things that can go wrong with them. If yours isn’t working at all you have one of the following problems:

  • The battery isn’t working
  • The charger isn’t charging your battery
  • The clearomiser (or coil) isn’t working
  • There is no contact between the battery and clearomiser

If you read through the information below you’ll be able to figure out where the fault lies and what you can do about it.

If the battery button doesn’t light up when you press it

Is it turned on?

Double check that the battery is turned on with five quick clicks of the button (try this a few times). It seems obvious –  but batteries that aren’t switched on are easily the top reason for customers calling or emailing us.

Is it the battery or the charger?

If your battery won’t turn on and doesn’t light up when you press the button it is either out of charge or it needs replacing.

If your charger works with other batteries, the one that won’t charge is almost certainly dead. If your charger won’t charge any batteries then the charger is the issue.

If the battery button does light up when you press it

Is it a failed clearomiser/coil?

If other clearomisers work on the battery, then it is fine, but you need to replace the clearomiser (or coil if it is a rebuildable model).

If no clearomisers work with the battery then you probably have a failed battery – just check first that it isn’t a connection issue (see below).

Is it a connection issue?

If you bought an ego style battery (the type that comes with starter kits) from Vapable you won’t have a connection problem as our batteries have a sprung connection. However, the connection between the battery and clearomiser can be a problem with other types of battery.

This video shows how you can fix a connection problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95rLdXHieIM&list=PLeSNUFIBuqKPgG8yikZf54pQG9cSrUDeT

If the battery button flashes when you press it

Is it a failed clearomiser/coil?

If other clearomisers work on the battery, then it is fine, but you need to replace the clearomiser (or coil if it is a rebuildable model).

If no clearomisers work with the battery then you probably have a failed battery – just check first that it isn’t a charging issue (see below).

Is it a charging issue?

When the battery needs charging the button will usually flash (until it is too flat to power the light). If the battery won’t charge it means that either the battery or charger has failed.

If your charger works with other batteries, the one that won’t charge is almost certainly dead. If your charger won’t charge any batteries then the charger is the issue.

***We have noticed an issue with Kanger dual coils – if they are too tight on the battery they can cause the power button to flash. If this happens, try just loosening the clearomiser by half a turn.***

What to do if you have a failed battery

If you have bought your battery from Vapable we provide a month’s warranty, which is plenty of time for any manufacturing defect to surface. Just get in touch and we will organise a replacement.

If you need to buy a new battery, they are available here.
